University of Sheffield is research university that is located in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. It is broadly recognized as the leading of research and teaching university in the United Kingdom. It is the member of Russell Group, N8 Group, Worldwide Universities Network and White Rose University Consortium.

The university has Octagon Centre as a multi-function conference centre. It is located at the Western Bank campus. It holds eight-sided auditorium, meeting rooms, a lounge and offices. Its main auditorium is named as the Convocation Hall.

The main administrative centre of the university is named Firth Court. It is located on Western Bank. It was opened in 1905. At the left of this building, there is the Registrar and Secretary’s Office named The Rotunda.

There is an annual Varsity Challenge that takes place among the teams from the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University. The varsity is separated into summer and winter competitions. University of Sheffield has twenty six varsity sports.
