Universite Lavalhas a motto ‘By the grace of God, to no one equal’. It is categorized as the oldest center of education in Canada and the second oldest in North America. It was the first institution in North America to offer higher education in French. It is ranked among the top ten Canadian universities in terms of research funding. Maurice Perrault designed this university on St. Denis Street 1893-94 and Joseph Simeon Bergeron designed several buildings of this university including School of Chemistry, Mining School, and cafeteria building.

Universite Laval offers over 350 programs to more than 38000 students. It also attracts more than 2500 foreign students annually and has close to 1000 students drawn from Canadian provinces outside of Quebec. It is also the only university that trains forestry engineers. For the University cooperative, it is a cooperative engaged in the sale of products to customers through the university such as books, lecture notes, and computers.
