The SAE Institute (SAE, well known as the School of Audio Engineering and the SAE Technology College) is a private college established in 1976 by Tom Misner as sound engineer, record producer and businessman. The first school was launched 1977 in Sydney, Australia. It bid courses in audio engineering, 3D animation, multimedia, digital filmmaking, graphic design, game design, and music production. It presently has campuses and facilities, including registered franchise operations, in 54 cities in 30 countries. In 2010 it was traded to Navitas, a publicly traded educational services company.  Few years later, new locations were released in Romania, Jakarta, and Moskhato. Naivtas started taking over the licensed branches in the US in 2011, and laid off above 40 US employees in 2014. SAE Online, previously SAE Graduate colleges, is an unaccredited, distance learning, proprietary, for-profit European school that bids post graduate courses from Masters Degrees to PhDs in Creative Media Industries. SAE sponsors the national unsigned music competition Top of the Ox, freshly won by singer-songwriter Ian Edwards, in association with Oxford based on record label Crash Records and the other organizations.
