Open University is one of the largest universities in the United Kingdom for undergraduate education. It was founded in 1969. It has around 250,000 students. The university campus for full-time postgraduate research students is around 48 ha. There are more than 2500 administrative. The members of academic and research staff are about 1000. The Open University is one of higher education institutions in United Kingdom to receive accreditation in the USA by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

The university has several faculties, such as: Education & Language Studies; Faculties of Arts; Health &Social Care; Business & Law; Mathematics, Computing &Technology; Science; Law; and Social Science. The Faculty of Mathematics, Computing & Technology contains Departments of Computing & Communication; Departments of Mathematics & Statistics; and Departments of Engineering & Innovation.

The university created radio and television programmes for bringing learning to wider audience for several years. In the early years, most of programs were in the form of filmed lectures or documentaries.
