New Mexico Highlands University is a public university that located in Las Vegas, New Mexico. It was established in 1893 as New Mexico Normal School and then New Mexico Normal University in 1902. This existed name was changed in 1941, when it expanded its role beyond teacher education. It offers graduate and undergraduate programs in arts and sciences, business, education, and social work.
New Mexico Highlands University consists of approximately 3765 students are from New Mexico and are Latino. This university’s programs focus on multi-ethnic student body, especially Latino and American Indian cultures distinctive of New Mexico. This campus is also famous for the people. It can be seen in the movie Red Dawn as the town of Las Vegas substituted for a fictional community of Calumet, Colorado. It also can be seen in the John Carpenter film Vampires.
