Birmingham City University is often abbreviated as BCU. Previously, it was Birmingham Polytechnic and the University of Central England. It is the 2nd largest of five universities in Birmingham. It has 3 main campuses that provide 4 faculties. It also serves courses for computing, art & design, busuness, education, English, engineering, law, healthcare, technology, and social science. Its courses have been accredited by Creative Skillset. Almost half of its full time students are from the West Midlands that are from ethnic minorities. The campusses of the university have been spread across several different sites in Birmingham. It has some facilities, such as:
- University house. It is a home for several professional service departments. It is located near the City Centre Campus.
- Moor Lane. It is place for sports, business training and conference. It is located close to City North Campus. It includes football and rugby pitches, bowls, running track and bowls.
The university has 7 libraries which contain about 950,000 books. The libraries also collect around 9,000 print and electronic journals. It got many awards in some categories. In 2010, it got the highest mark for the quality of training and management.
