‘Learn, so as to instruct others; Act, to serve as example to all’ is the motto ofBeijing Normal University. It is well known as Beishida that a public research university located in Beijing. It has strong emphasis on basic disciplines of humanities and sciences. It is listed as one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in China. The term reflects BNU’s heritage as a former unit of the Imperial University of Peking dedicated to training schoolteachers.

The current campus of Beijing Normal University was built in 1954. It is located in northwest downtown Beijing in Haidian district between the second and third ring roads. It is closest among all Haidian universities to Tiananmen Square. A sister campus was established in the coastal city of Zhuhai in Guangdong Province in 2002. The campus hosted the U.S. Olympic Team during 2008 Beijing Olympics. QiuJiduan Gymnasium and recreation complex was finished in 2008 and Undergrads Dorm.
