University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) was a university that specialized in technical and scientific subjects and located in the center of the city of Manchester in England. It was also role as the major center for research. It had some former names they are Manchester Mechanics’ Institute, Manchester Municipal School of technology, Manchester College of Science and Technology.
University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) was active in period 1824-2004 and it was merged into newly formed University of Manchester in 2004. In the end of this university, it recorded 1500 administrative staff, 4800 undergraduates, and 1700 postgraduate. It established a reputation as a major research-based university and performing well in the government’s Research Assessment Exercise in 2001. It has won four Queen’s Prizes for Higher and Further Education, two Prince of Wales’ Awards for Innovation and two Queen’s Award for Export Achievement. It was instrumental in the founding of what is now the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester.
