Memorial University of Newfoundland is comprehensive university that is mainly situated in Newfoundland, St. John’s and Labrador. It has more than 18,000 students making it as the biggest university in Atlantic Canada. The university has 4 main campuses and 2 satellite campuses over three regions. Its largest campus is sited in St. John’s. Its main campuses are served by around 2,300 staff at 1100 faculty.
The university has a botanical garden. Its collection comprises aquatic plant, annual plants, alder trees, fir, and spruce. It is sited at Oxen Pond. It was established in 1972. The emblem of this botanical garden is Twinflower.
The sports teams of the university are the Memorial Sea-Hawks (previously The Beothuks). They consist of several teams, like: basketball, volleyball, swimming, soccer, wrestling and cross-country. The university also has some student media, like: radio station (CHMR-FM) and newspaper (The Muse).
The university’s libraries consist of several collections of the university Archives. The Archive collection contains manuscripts, records, tapes, photographs and artifacts. The students can use several computers that are provided on the main floor of the library.
